About this data
How to read it
Hand-verification has not started yet, so every listing is currently unverified. Spot a missing or wrong rink? Tell us.
Where the rinks come from
Facilities are pulled from OpenStreetMap and de-duplicated, with nearby features merged into one listing. Pennsylvania is being hand-verified first; everything else is community-sourced and unverified until we get to it.
How distance is measured
Each county gets one point, its 2020 Census center of population, and we measure the straight line from there to the nearest known rink. Straight line is not drive time, so treat every number as a floor.
What a gap score means
Population multiplied by kilometers to the nearest sheet, counting only counties whose nearest rink is 40 km or more away. Without that floor, Los Angeles and Riverside top the list on population alone. A big number means many people and no ice.
